Core Definition

【English】
Fullness and Emptiness refer to the functional distribution and weighting within a system in motion.
They are not a simple distinction between presence and absence, but relational states of emphasis, support, and release within a whole.

Concept Explanation

虚,并不意味着空无或无力,而是指不承载主要作用、保持灵活与可变的状态;

当虚实分明、转换自然,整体运行便流畅有序;

【English】
In classical Chinese thought and Taichi practice, fullness and emptiness function as a practical principle of discernment.
Within any dynamic whole, there must be areas of emphasis and areas of openness; this distribution determines clarity of function and effectiveness of action.

Emptiness does not imply weakness or absence, but flexibility and non-attachment to primary load;
Fullness does not imply rigidity, but stable support and functional responsibility.

Fullness and emptiness are not fixed states, but continuously shift according to conditions, direction, and relational context.
When they are clearly distinguished and naturally transformed, movement becomes efficient and balanced;
when they are confused, coordination and judgment deteriorate.

In Taichi cultivation, fullness and emptiness manifest through weight distribution, directional intent, and awareness.
True skill lies not in constant fullness, but in the ability to discern, apply, and transform fullness and emptiness appropriately.

Key Distinctions

Fullness and emptiness describe functional weighting and emphasis, not a binary of presence and absence.
