It is not “nothingness,” but the primordial source from which Taiji and all phenomena emerge.

Concept Explanation

【English】
In classical Chinese thought, Wuji does not signify emptiness or negation.
Rather, it describes a state of wholeness prior to differentiation—before yin and yang, movement and stillness, or any form of polarity arise.

Because nothing has yet separated, Wuji contains all potential.
When differentiation begins and relational dynamics emerge, the state transitions into Taiji.

In Taichi practice and cultivation, Wuji is not merely a philosophical abstraction.
It refers to a lived condition of body–mind unity, where tension, forced effort, and opposition dissolve, allowing natural balance to arise.

Key Distinctions

Wuji represents a state of undivided wholeness.
It is neither absence nor disorder.
